A surprise success at Balmoral 2014

Following last years unbelievable results at Balmoral this year Jalex Herd made a foray into the pedigree rings for the first time.  The first pedigree son of our stock bull, Swarland Eddie, to hit the show ring was “Jalex Itsallgood” who at close of judging stood Junior Limousin Male Champion, Reserve Limousin Male Champion, Overall Limousin Junior Champion and Reserve Interbreed Junior Champion.

Our heifer Ronick Ivory, purchased from the Ronick herd at the January Red Ladies Day in Carlisle also pleased the judge on the day, winning her class, Standing Female Junior Champion and Reserve Limousin Junior Champion which left us with a clean sweep in the Limousin Junior sections.

In the commercial ring Jalex bred stock featured heavily with total of 9 commercials bred by the Jalex herd being on show, 2 out of the 4 classes were won by Jalex bred stock.

The 1st class, Lightweight Heifer was won by Khalessi exhibited by Gareth Small, Kilkeel. This heifer was sired by Swarland Eddie and purchased from us in January after the Limousin calf show, where she won her class. Gareth also got 2nd in this class with another Jalex bred heifer, “Mya”, sired by Hightown Dagleish out of a BB cow.   6th place in this class was another heirfer sired by Swarland Eddie and shown by Crawford and Beattie.

In the Heavyweight heifer class our best result was by Robert Miller with a heifer bred by John Smith Jackson and sired by our stock bull Heatherview Cooper.  She was purchased in Leyburn after standing champion, for £7300.

In the 1st of the steer classes our stock stood 2nd and 3rd, Barney Rubble sired by Craigatoke Bomber and shown by G. Corrie and Johnny Neill stood 2nd, whilst “Wee Man” sired again by Swarland Eddie and shown by Gareth Small stood 3rd.

The final commercial class, the heavy weight steer, was won by Richard Fleming with a steer bred here sired by Grahams Ecuador out of a Daq x Lim cow.

At the end of judging Khalessi had claimed Reserve Female and Reserve Supreme Champion Commercial for Gareth Small and  Barney Rubble had claimed the Reserve Male champion spot for the Corrie and Neill partnership.

Mya and Khalessi had also paired up to go on and pick up the Champion Commercial Pair.
